Behind Wiregrass Country
In today’s world of the Internet and instant access to information, the writer can no longer hope no one checks his or her facts.
And, really, what is more satisfying than to check on something you find in a novel, only to find it is ACCURATE? I love that. I’m reminded of the time I had a lay over in New Orleans while on the way to Central America. We had driven from Atlanta to New Orleans, where we planned to catch a flight to Honduras.
I had just finished reading an Anne Rice novel, and I had been entranced by the house she described in the Garden District in her book. On a whim, I asked my companion if we could drive by the location cited in the book. And there it was, lavender with green shutters, just as I had imagined it from the author’s description.
Sometimes, the reader almost feels as though they have come home when they ‘discover’ the story is based on a bit of reality.
For that reason, I decided to share some of the historical information I researched while writing Wiregrass Country.
