Leaves rustle overhead and fifteen year old Lee Spence shivers in fear. Outcast from society after the death of her parents, she is lost in the wilds of south Georgia.
The year is 1821 and Georgia is still a vast wilderness, sparsely peopled by Creek Indians and traders.
Instead of finding her grandparents, her last hope for haven, she is captured by a band of Creeks. Just as she loses all hope, she is rescued by two white men.
Lee is drawn into the secret life of a family hiding deep in the swamp. When she is given the choice between returning to the civilized world she knows or staying with this family, her decision will change all their lives forever.
